An extensive and highly innovative musical and artistic project, Music Across will roll out over a number of years, promoting new expressions in contemporary art and aiming to become one of the leading events at Expo 2015 in Milan. Music Across, a new entertainment initiative from the Lombardy Region, was presented by Massimo Zanello, the Spokesman for Culture, Identity, and Autonomy, and by the event's artistic director, Caterina Caselli.

Music Across is a new project that spans across genres, involving different artistic languages and enjoying extensive support from the Region of Lombardy, as further proof of its excellence in music and in Lombard culture in general.

The preview of "Music Across" will begin on September 12th with "Indeepandance" and "Live Across". The first event is a global premier: it's a multimedia audiovisual work in 13 sections that combines concert, cinema, and poetry (housed in a "spaceship" in the City Arena), designed and created by four young artists (composer Vittorio Cosma, writer Aldo Nove, and the Masbedo duo).

During the same period (through Sunday, September 14th), four historic spots in Milan (Rolling Stone, Magazzini Generali, La Salumeria della Musica, and La Casa 139) will feature 35 up-and-coming groups on the music scene across Europe, from Italy to Iceland, organized into ten categories (new disco, songwriting, techno, funk 'n' folk, etc.).

The third section ("Contemporary") is dedicated to cultured contemporary music. In May 2009, the Ponchielli Theatre in Cremona will present the Ictus Ensemble (from Belgium) and the La Scala Theatre Academy Chamber Ensemble, while the 2010 edition will feature ad hoc musical compositions by three of the most famous young Italian composers (Giorgio Battistelli, Ivan Fedele and Luca Francesconi).

The whole "Music Across" event will have zero environmental impact thanks to a collaboration with Ersaf (Regional Agriculture and Forests Agency) and Life Gate radio. All carbon dioxide emissions created by the event, starting from the three preview days in September, will be offset with the creation of new green spaces. (Ln).

President of the Lombardy Region Roberto Formigoni and the Spokesman for Culture, Massimo Zanello, entrusted Caterina Caselli Sugar with the Artistic Direction of Music Across. The aim is to be an homage to the creativity of musical entrepreneurship, a chance for Italian and European artists to intersect, an important showcase for new productions and new compositions and for the new languages in all the kinds of artistic expression that increasingly involve music, thanks to technology.

Music Across is organized in three sections:

  1. Indeepandance
  2. LiveAcross
  3. Contemporary

The Preview will be held in Milan from September 12th - 14th, 2008, bringing Indeepandance to Milan in the City Arena, and LiveAcross to four historic clubs in Milan.

What they're saying about Music Across:

"We are proud to present this extraordinary project," said Zanello . "It is an important part of the regional policy on promoting innovation, supporting contemporaneity and new artistic expressions. We started from one of Lombardy's and Milan's greatest strengths - music - with the intent not to be just its curators but also to keep vitality alive".

Zanello thus wishes to thank all those who contributed to the project, and Caterina Caselli in particular, a former member of the Regional Committee for Entertainment, which sparked the idea for "Music Across". As the Spokesman explained, "This project will enhance the ancient tradition of music in Lombardy, the centuries-old experience of the master organ builders and lute makers of Cremona, all the way to opera and La Scala in Milan, and to Milan's current leadership in publishing."

"It's a unique challenge," said Caterina Caselli, "which I was very pleased to accept. It's the first time that a public institution has created a project that aims to spark new ideas and new productions, like the Lombardy Region has done with 'Music Across'."
