Giuliano Sangiorgi
Biografia
Giuliano Sangiorgi was born in 1979 at Copertino in the Lecce province. Since childhood, a musical fire has burned in his veins: he started playing the guitar at a very early age, which was followed by the piano, and throughout adolescence, he developed a yearning to make music more seriously. In 2000 he conceived the Negramaro project: six musicians who, through their numerous live performances, would very soon become rising phenomenon in the alternative scene. Since the inception of the band Giuliano, has written all the music and lyrics for Negramaro.
In 2003 negramaro released its first self-produced album on the Sugar label, but it was with “000577” (2004) that the band first began to establish itself in the mainstream scene.
Confirming the band's passion for playing live, throughout the years negramaro have performed at every major Italian festival, such as the May Day concert, the Heineken Jammin’ Festival, the M.E.I. in Faenza, Arezzo Wave Love Festival and MTV DAY.
As it transpires, Giuliano also writes for other artists: in 2004 he wrote “Le parole che non ti ho detto” for the incredible voice of Andrea Bocelli, while in 2007 he wrote “Senza Fiato”, the title track for the movie “Cemento Armato”, which he also performed together with Dolores O’Riordan. The album
“Mentre Tutto Scorre” (2005) consolidated the band's success: the first single and title track from the album won the Radio & TV Critics' Award at the 55th edition of the Sanremo Festival and was chosen as the theme track for the movie “La Febbre” by Alessandro D’Alatri. In all eight tracks from the new album were used in the sound track for the movie.
Between 2005 and 2007 Giuliano Sangiorgi and negramaro racked up an impressive succession of awards and accolades: Festivalbar 2005 with best new act, “Premio Mia Martini” as best new act of the year, MTV EUROPE AWARDS with BEST ITALIAN ACT, PREMIO VIDEOCLIP ITALIANO for “Mentre Tutto Scorre” and PREMIO M.E.I. as best emerging bad of the year, NASTRO D’ARGENTO for BEST SONG with “Mentre Tutto Scorre” and for BEST SOUNDTRACK and outright winners of Festivalbar 2007.
As a writer, Giuliano Sangiorgi won the SIAE prize for the success of the track “Mentre Tutto Scorre” in terms of sales, public performances and reproduction (concerts and dance clubs), television and radio airing and reproduction in movie theaters.
Between January and April 2007, went to the US with Negramaro to produce their new album. In June, the album “La finestra” was released: the record, recorded at Plant Studios in San Francisco and mastered at Sterling Sound in New York, was produced by Corrado Rustici and arranged by Corrado Rustici with Negramaro. Lyrics and music are by Giuliano Sangiorgi. The album includes an exceptional guest appearance by Lorenzo Jova Cherubini and rocketed to multiple platinum status very quickly indeed.
Giuliano made his directing debut with the first single from the album “Parlami d’amore”,, and followed up with the video for “L’immenso”, filmed in Salento among the places of his childhood.
The rockumentary “Dall’altra parte della luna” was also a concept by Giuliano Sangiorgi: at the end of August 2007, negramaro entered the movie in the 'Orizzonti' category of the Venice Cinema Festival. The film, directed by Dario Baldi and Davide Marengo, tells the story of a dream shared by six young men who, in just a few short years and through sheer talent and passion, progress from the cellar where they played in the Lecce province to recording the new album “La finestra” at Plant Studios in San Francisco. At the end of November, Giuliano was awarded with the prize for best directing debut at PVI.
