Lucio Quarantotto was born in Mestre in 1957.

He released his first record "Di mattina molto presto" in 1982, which received the Club Tenco prize for best debut production in 1984.

Quarantotto is an extraordinary writer who performs his unique lyrics with an equally unique voice, "a thick magma that tends to fade away in soul-moving sentimental vibrations" (Roberto Roversi).

In 1986 "Ehi là" was released, which was also produced by Alessandro Colombini "lyrics stripped to the bone, half recited, half sung with a magical slowness...to be sure that each word is precisely delivered after the last" (Roberto Roversi).

In 1990 "L'ultima nuvola sui cieli d'Italia" was released, which remains his latest record to date. This was the result of a project that began in 1988 at the request of Franco Battiato for a mini LP for the experimental series "L'ottava".

Lucio composed "Viaggiando verso Jesolo", "Tripoli", "Pulito" and "Come le onde". The success of the project led took things to a new level: "L'ottava" was looking for a partner to make the LP a reality.

The partner chosen was Caterina Caselli's "Sugar" label, while the rest of the production team remained the same, with Enrico Maghenzani and contribution by Giusto Pio and Franco Battiato.

The musicians Piercarlo d'Amato e Francesco Sartori played significant roles right from the very inception of the project, working together with Lucio to co-write and arrange the music. These were joined towards the end of the preproduction stage by Alessandro Nidi.

In the meanwhile, the song "E se questa fosse l'ultima" was performed by Caterina Caselli on her first new album "Amada mia".

Lucio Quarantotto finally entered "L'ultima nuvola sui cieli d'Italia" for the Tenco prize at Sanremo on October 25th, 1990. His performance was welcomed with an enthusiastic reception by critics, who repeatedly cited the album as one of the best releases of the year in the specialist press.

The following period saw him in the role of songwriter for the artists on the Sugar label, including "Con te partirò" and "Canto della Terra", which were recorded first by Andrea Bocelli and subsequently by numerous other Italian and international artists. "Con te partiro' went on to become one of the most successful singles of all time, thanks to the magnificent performance by Andrea Bocelli.
