The singer songwriter Romeus – the stage name of Carmine Tundo – is 22 years old and was born in Galatina, in the province of Lecce, on December 26, 1987. In spite of his young age, he has plenty of experience playing live: he grew up on the local alternative rock scene, playing in various venues as well as at shows and festivals.
Romeus' musical dream began when he sent a demo to the U.S. address of Corrado Rustici, who carefully listened to the tracks and then passed them on to Caterina Caselli Sugar.
In 2007 Romeus began to work with Sugar on his first music project and further consolidated his musical training by collaborating with a team of experts: his debut album "Romeus" was recorded by David Frazer at SharkBite Studios, Oakland, California and was mastered by George Marino at Sterling Sound Studios in New York.
The theme that links all the tracks on "Romeus" is travel. Travel to a new place waiting to be discovered, to new emotions, to a new person you've never met or one to be seen in a new light. Almost all the songs were written during the trips that Romeus has taken over the last two years to France and to the United States, where he lived for a few months in Harlem, New York, and are the result of the inspiration he drew from the people he met and real and imaginary landscapes. It is music created "on the move".
Romeus is one of the rock music scene's new singer songwriters: Italian melodies with a razor-sharp, strong sound that reflects the intensity of the images evoked in the lyrics.
He expresses his own way of being a young singer songwriter using the simple, direct, unfiltered language that is typical of today's youth. He likes to tell the tale of the darker face of life, the deeper and more delicate aspects of human emotion. He has an emotive relationship with music and a remarkable sensitivity towards those around him.
His contemporary voice exposes the imperfect world in which we live without making judgments. Romeus sings instead about the feelings of a person who is close to the "wound" and is not led astray by the dark side of things but looks for the positive side. And this is reflected in the most representative and heartfelt of the artist's lyrics in the album: "Siamo foglie nel vento, ma che a volte scelgono di non cadere giù" ("We are leaves in the wind, but sometimes they choose not to fall").
Romeus wins Sanremo Lab.
The song Romeus will be presenting at the Sanremo Festival in the "SANREMO NUOVA GENERAZIONE 2010 " (Sanremo New Generation 2010) section "Come l'Autunno" ("Like the Fall") (music by Romeus, lyrics by Francesco Tricarico and Romeus). The track – just like the entire debut album to be released in February – is produced by Corrado Rustici. Romeus wrote all the lyrics and music, with the exception of "Invulnerabile" (music by Carmine Tundo and Corrado Rustici, lyrics by Carmine Tundo and Matteo Gamberini) "Meteora" (music by Carmine Tundo and Corrado Rustici), "Sonia" (lyrics by Carmine Tundo and Corrado Rustici) and the aforementioned track for the Sanremo Festival "Come l'autunno" (music by Romeus, lyrics by Francesco Tricarico and Romeus).
"Come l'autunno" implies this season is a passing phase, a time of waiting and reflecting on life-changing choices. A "sad but proud" season that in the life of someone young like Romeus represents a time for growing up and maturing.
