Accademia Teatro Alla Scala

Sugar's participation in the work of Accademia Teatro Alla Scala as their main sponsor is a natural destination in a journey that has consistently aimed at quality without compromise, with the awareness that a dedication to training excellent artistic and technical resources without needless divisions by genre is the only way to ensure that music's central role in contemporary civilization can strengthen and develop further. Sugar's commitment as main sponsor converges in the financing for four scholarships for training new opera singers and in its commitment to work with the Academy in assessing options for building initiatives outside the official academic program.

Accademia Teatro Alla Scala is a full-fledged performance university that trains over four hundred new talents every year. Founded in 2001 as a private law foundation in order to make La Scala Theatre's 'Schools, Training, and Development Management' an independent institution, the school progressively grew. Today, the Academy is directed by Luisa Vinci and is the only institution in Europe that trains students in all professions related to live performances, both artistic and technical.

With its international breadth, the school is organized into four departments - Music, Dance, Stage-Laboratory, and Management - offering advanced training courses for opera singers, instrumentalists, dancers, set designers, costume designers, make-up artists and hairdressers, stage photographers, managers, and sound technicians. Students develop their skills working alongside the best qualified experts in the sector and top professionals from the La Scala Theatre on musical and technical subjects alike. The training course concludes every year with the "Academy Project", an opera on the regular schedule at La Scala, and students in all courses work on the performance.

Special focus is dedicated to the Guidance, Education, and Special Projects Area, that crosses over to involve all the various departments. This is the ideal home for the Guidance Center for Entertainment Professionals, which offers consultation and training to assist students actively looking for work.

What's more, it helps develop ground-breaking research projects which, thanks to support from the European Community, have paired the Academy with prestigious institutions in Italy and abroad for years.
